The Army of Sir Effingham

Post by Spurious » Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:22 pm

Going down the route of a fictional commander and forces (for when not doing a banner swap to represent an actual unit). I'll write up the fluff later, but for now; what progress I've made in mustering forces for the noble and just cause of parliament in their struggles against the tyrant king.

Most of the infantry are now done apart from basing and a little bit of tidying up.

The core of my army, Sir Effingham's pike, I might stick a few stripy pikes in there (a nice little detail I came across from a failed muster where the Commander's own tenants who were the few that turned up could be identified by their blue and white striped pikes).

Yes, on fabric. I've probably got something appropriate around here I can use for that.

I thought I should do a quick tally of the forces under Sir Effingham so far (as much as reminding myself as anything).

39 cavalry to be formed into 3 units or so (2/3rds armed with pistol so primarily trotters)
88 shot 48 pike and a mess of command to be formed into some units (at least 2 grey coats 1 blue coat regiment, though it''s a going to be a grey-blue).
1 MInion (Perry)
1 Falconette (could not resist placing an order with The Assault Group, expensive but very nice sculpts/casts).
And a couple of people I can use for generals.

Plus some casualties and baggage.

Just a quick progress update with some blurry pics.

Movement trays have been gained, though I'm having to cut up bases to get more of my desired size. 5 more cavalry other the ones pictured here are about done. And I've sketched up few army list ideas for both pike & shotte and victory without quarter, taking advantage of the special rules in P&S to add a couple of non-standard units, notably a large but freshly raised unit for when I get my next block of pike done.

Am thinking of sticking things in 3 groups, Sir Effingham, his personal regiment who are Reliable, a second unit who are not, and the large, freshly raised unit to make an infantry center, a second commander (John Fluck) with some firelocks as commanded shot and both cannon (which I am sorely tempted to name Slap and Tickle ¬_¬), and a third commander (Captain Henry Wallop) with 3 units of cavalry (well, perhaps one unit actually counting as basic cavalry rather than caracole, du0e to modeling that many with swords drawn rather than pistols). Of course that will inevitably get mixed up a bit but there's the general idea of the army.

Am only mostly dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.

Slow, slowly managing to get something done. Unfortunately not finishing anything though. still, the irregular clothing lot (outside of the officers) are for the second main unit or bulking things out generally. The colours are a bit obnoxiously bright currently but a coat of ink of course works wonders.

Colourful mess is becoming consistent-ish enough now so that I can identify my own units, and banners are being made as I've finally worked out my icons.

Anyone want a game or two?
