If it moves…shoot it.

Post by Rab » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:19 pm

Unsurprisingly, I have gone for a small wood elf skirmish list for my 200pts.

Initial list for the tournament opener shall be:

9 Glade Guard
1 Lords Bowman
5 Dryads

How did the woodies fare?

list correction…that should have been 10 glade guard plus a lords bowman. anyway, how were the woodies in an 8th warband game?

First game.
-------------
Up against Martin's Warriors. Lots of poor shooting, but even when the archers did hit the arrows couldn't penetrate that armour or get past those pesky shields! Dryads held up the warriors in combat, and even managed to kill a few, but ultimately the hulking warriors were too much. It was all looking a little bleak, some archers stood on the hill bracing themselves for the onslaught of 2 chaos knights…luckily the knights charged through the forest and the spirit of Athel Loren saw us proud!

Second Game
----------------
Up against Simon's Warriors, a very small band of chaos champions and a chosen. Once again, killing the hulking brutes at longrange proved difficult. It was looking good in the final turn as I had the remaining 2 warriors surrounded by 8 glade guard at short range and out of their charge arc…sadly the chosen killed the final dryad, reducing my army to half…and the Glade Guard retreated to fight another day.

Third Game
--------------
Up against Paul's stout dwarves…initial rounds of elven shooting proved ineffective, lots of panic amongst my glade guard as their fellows dropped to gunfire, rather surprisingly the dryad contingent were in a particularly effective mood and killed/routed the ironbreakers and then the Rangers, and my glade guard found their range in the end. Game ended with a lone thunderer on the hill being circled in on by 7 glade guard at short range, and an even more desperate ranger on the edge of the battlefield being hounded by 2 ( or was it 3 ) dryads.

2wins 1 loss. some lessons learned.

True, and without any mage, it's just a wood which can't eat you.

What does the army book say? is it 'must take a wood' or 'may take a wood'

I did ask…but the man from del monte said 'no'

On the terrain front, i did notice that the table Martin and I initially setup had loads of terrain..but the other 2 tables were a little sparse?

Perhaps the campaign organiser should setup the tables before peeps arrive?

certainly against the skaven the board was sparse, but i could have added more terrain, i don't think we should expect the tourny organiser to do everything for us. We're all capable of setting up a board
